Scottish activists hit Kyrgyzstan

The Scottish Kyzyl Asker expedition has returned after a pretty successful trip to Kyrgyzstan. Guy Robertson and Ez Tresidder concentrated on the SE face of Kyzyl, gettingabout halfway up the steepest alpine ice route either had ever seen on theirsecond attempt. Both attempts were thwarted by dramatic thawing wheneverthe sun hit the ice. Blair Fyffe and Neal Crampton climbed two new alpine routes onpeaks around Kyzyl Asker.First up was the North face of Pic Babushka(c5300m), a beautiful alpine snow/ice face with about 700m of climbing up toScottish V, climbed in a day.hey then moved to the glacier below KyzylAsker and climbed the North ridge of the steep point 4850, making the firstascentof the mountain and renaming it Cathedral Peak. This again gave about 700m of climbing, the crux beingwell protected VI.The team would like to thank Mountain Equipment for their support.
