by Mick Ryan Craig Y Longridge Climbers will be delighted to learn that the long-awaited purchase of Craig Y Longridge by the BMC has been completed today. Craig Y Longridge is situated near Longridge in Lancashire and is a short, overhanging gritstone wall that was discovered by Andrew Gridley in 1983. It is a very popular bouldering crag with over 100 problems ranging from V0 to V11. The landowner who owns the adjacent caravan park was worried about Occupier?s Liability ? to climbers and the general public, and access had been restricted. However a dialogue was established with the landowner by the BMC, especially BMC Access Officer, Guy Keating. Local climbers such as Pete Black and Bill Renshaw all worked hard on the acquisition. Keep your eye on the BMC website for more details and always check the Regional Access Database before climbing anywhere. Here is the entry for Craig Y Longridge which now of course needs updating.
