UK Buildering Championships 2007 report

The first UK Buildering Chamionships were a great success. Over 40 climbers from all over the UK met in London for some of the hardest climbing the city streets have ever seen. The comp was sponsored by planetfear, and organised by london buildering. Climbers followed a circuit of problems from Tower Bridge to Battersea Bridge; dynoing, jamming, laybacking and crimping their way up and along some awesome manmade features. Despite an early interception by a van load of Met police, most of the day´s climbing was uninterrupted, and watched by crowds of confused tourists! The atmosphere was always relaxed, and the competition took a backseat to exploration and new routing. The competition finished on a brutal highball finger crack on Battersea bridge. Liam showed the way, calmly despatching the tricky layback crux, followed by a slightly less calm looking Tom Peckitt. Climbing here was cut a little short by the arrival of a police boat, curtailing some people´s ascents. Despite Liam´s onsight of the final problem, the winner was Tom Peckitt who bagged almost all the problems, including several first ascents! The female winner was Faye Stevens, who along with Fi ticked many of the day´s climbs.
