Wasdale MRT Fundraising Event

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team have contacted us in a bid to raise funds for their activities over the coming year. As you are probably aware the UK mountain rescue teams are voluntary organisations comprising of unpaid civilians, providing round the clock cover for all the wild areas in the country. The Wasdale team covers perhaps one of the better known areas, as within it you find England´s highest peak Scafell Pike, and as you might expect as a result they are also one of the busiest, with between fifty to seventy call outs per year. Last year thee applied to the National Lottery for a grant towards the cost of replacing their vehicles ( two Landrovers and a Minibus), but were turned down on the grounds that they did not fit the criteria of a worthy cause! With this in mind they are hosting a series of events, combined with the 2002 International Year of the Mountains and the Cumbrian Mountain Festival, with the intent of self financing the essential vehicle replacement schedule. The major event that is planned will take place on September 7 2002. They will be holding the fifth Kern Knotts Crack Auction and weekend of events, which although normally held only every other year has had to be brought forward out of necessity. The weekend comprises of a host of activities ranging from children´s treasure hunts through to full scale orienteering, a cross country human steeple chase and a weekend long beer festival. The main event however is the auction in the evening and shop during the day from which we sell and auction of goods and services donated by kind sponsors. If you are able to donate items or services for the weekend, with all the money raised going directly to the teams appeal, the team would be really grateful and, if applicable, be happy to offer advertising and reciprocal links through their own website. The links remain on the site throughout the year and any advertising material sent is also displayed on the day and throughout the base during the visits created through the International Year of the Mountains. They are also open for discussion on further joint ventures or sponsorship.
