Weekly Odds & Sods

Dave Graham made light work of Slashface in Hueco, getting the 8B+ problem on his second go after missing one of the final holds on his flash attempt. Source: 8a.nu Last summer the Peak Area hosted a successful ?Meet the BMC? day at Stanage, and for a number of years the annual Southern Sandstone Open Day has combined climbing with serious discussion and festivities. Not to be outdone, the Yorkshire Area is looking at ideas for a similar event to be held in the White Rose county sometime this year. By way of background, this year?s Southern Sandstone Open Day, to be held on 20 May, will involve attendances from the BMC, the Ramblers? Association, The National Trust, The Sussex Wildlife Trust and other interested organisations. Some famous climbers and local activists who have been associated with the area will come along and ?mingle?. We?re hoping to do something similar in Yorkshire, and generate publicity for the work of area volunteers. During the day there?ll be lots of climbing, followed by an audio-visual extravaganza in the evening at a pub (presented by a Yorkshire climbing celebrity), and all this rounded of with a barrel of free beer, a load of food and some good-natured discussion. The content and format for the open day will be one of the items to be discussed at the next Yorkshire Area meeting on Monday 3 April at The New Inn, Cononley, near Keighley. If you?ve got some suggestions about this or other issues, please come along to the meeting or contact BMC Volunteers? Officer Martin Kocsis on 0161 438 3336 or by emailing martin@thebmc.co.uk Source: BMC
