Emma Twyford, BLCC, Blackpool Towers.alex© Alex MessengerClimbers step up to the steep stuff for British lead championships.Britain's premier lead climbing competition will be held at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA), Ratho on the weekend of 18-19 July.The BMC has chosen the new location for this year's British Lead Climbing Championships (BLCC) so climbers can compete on the new international standard competition wall.Over 60 competitors battled it out in last year's championship in Blackpool. The reigning senior champions are Gareth Parry and Audrey Seguy. Jonathan Stocking and Shauna Coxsey hold the junior titles.Spectators can watch Britain's best competition climbers in action for free. The Rat Race adventure challenge will also be taking place in Edinburgh during the weekend and will pass through EICA.There is no qualification process to gain entry into the BLCC and the BMC welcomes new and established competitors. Juniors and Veterans will compete on Saturday 18 July, with the Seniors climbing on Sunday 19 July. Rob Adie, BMC Competitions Officer said: ?It's set to be an exciting and challenging championship. The BMC Youth Climbing Series National Final takes place on Saturday 20 June at the Westway Climbing Centre, London and the British Bouldering Championships will be held on the weekend of 11-12 July at the Cliffhanger outdoor festival in Sheffield.
