Over nearly 6 months this winter, Frenchman Patrick Berhault completed an east-to-west walking and climbing tour of the Alps, climbing 22 major summits by difficult routes along the way (these included the North Faces of the Grandes Jorasses, Matterhorn and Eiger, the Fish Route on the Marmolada, and the South Face of the Meije). Climbing occasionally solo but mostly with various well-known partners he travelled the 1,900 miles and 90,000 feet of ascent by boot, bicycle or skis.
