Ace Race Roundup

The final Ace Race of the season took part in Scotland last weekend. Due to the demise of the Adrenalin Rush organisation, this race became the de facto British Championship Series final. Its format was pretty far removed from anything resembling an international adventure race but Phil Humphries, the organiser, designed as good a course as ever and added additional legs to try to bridge the gap between a normal Ace Race and a standard adventure race. Gary Thompsett and Helen Jackson from the mixed pairs and Heather Dawe from the female solo category put up particularly strong performances. Since that is the end of Ace Races, and indeed of nearly all UK adventure races in 2004, UK athletes will be looking forward to the announcement of the 2005 dates from all the race series so that they can plan their next training calendar.
