Drew Haigh at the Wilf Ward Family TrustUKClimbing.com have just undergone a news page redesign. On the new look page is an area for Outdoor Industry News, enabling climbing companies to upload press releases to UKC.This will help us keep our news organised and accessible, and help keep our users (YOU!) up to date with news from the industry on products and services and when a company is doing something they want to shout about. It seems that despite the credit crunch, many climbing companies, both large and small, are doing what they can to support worthy causes. Of course these companies gain promotion from their support of these causes, but if you are doing something good, it's worth shouting about. We recently ran a news story about Wild Country (UKC News) supporting the BMC Crag Care fund.Dave Turnbull, BMC CEO said:?It's great news that Wild Country has come on board to support the Crag Care Fund and we're looking forward to putting the donations to good use to help our crags. The support will help two-fold – by contributing directly to practical volunteer initiatives and also by raising awareness of the Fund itself, which is still in its infancy.”A slightly smaller business, Obsessive Climbing Designs (formally Homemade Climbing Stuff) have just made their first donation to charity.Drew Haigh comments on his website:”We've been in business for a year now and the time has come to visit our friends at the Wilf Ward Family Trust with a cheque for a share of our annual chalk bag sales. We managed to donate a grand total of £250 which will go towards helping adults and children with special needs and disabilities. A worthier cause I cannot think of. This donation is thanks entirely to our customers over the last twelve months.”Mountain Equipment are continuing their sponsorship of the Sport Scotland Avalanche Information Service (SAIS) as detailed in this full report: UKC Full Report Richard Talbot, ME's Product Manager said: ?The avalanche information service is unique in the role it fulfils. Its forecasts are used by recreational hill-walkers and climbers every day throughout the winter and without doubt helps to save lives.”On a slightly different tack is Ollie Ryall from ClimbFrance. Ollie has teamed up with interpreters to provide the first climbing holiday exclusively for deaf climbers.Ollie commented:”The ClimbFrance instructors will work closely with interpreters from Communication ID (also climbers) to ensure that essential skills are taught safely, with the aim of giving deaf climbers the confidence and skills to carry on afterwards.”Diesen Artikel inkl.
