Piolet D´Or won by Slovenians

The 2007 Piolet D´Or was awarded on Friday last week at Grenoble in France. The Piolet D´Or, or the Golden Ice Axe, is an award dished out by French magazine Montagne and the Groupe de Haute Montagne for the most outstanding mountaineering achievement each year. Brits Ian Parnell and Tim Emmett had been nominated for their new route on the southeast pillar of Kedar Dome in Pakistan (detail). However they were pipped by Slovenians Marko Prezelj and Boris Lorencic, for the first ascent on Chomolhari´s northwest pillar (detail). Check out Wikipedia for plenty of information on the Piolet D´Or.
