Portland Update 2 – This times its legal

The following areas have been approved for climbing on Portland.Access may be subject to change as the foot and mouth situation develops. Please act responsibly and help us to keep Dorset free of Foot and Mouth infection. Use only the approved footpaths and access routes outlined. ALL DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON LEADS AT ALL TIMES.1. Blacknor North. Access to this area may achieved by the path leading through Bowers Quarry from Wide Street (Grid Ref: SY686721) to the north of St George´s Church at Weston/Reforne. Follow this path until you reach the coast path at which point turn south and continue until you reach the cliff top access point to the north of Blacknor North Sector before Blacknor Fort (Grid Ref: SY680718) – please note this is not the cliff top quarry access by the West Cliff Estate at Weston. On no account pass the fort or try to use any other access points. If you wish to access any other sectors along this section of cliff, access may only be achieved along the bottom of the cliff. When leaving the area please use same route as for entry.2. The Cuttings Access to this area may be achieved by the path leading from Wakeham, past the Portland Museum (Grid Ref: 696713) and down to Church Ope Cove. At the viewing area above the cove take the coast path north and follow the old railway line to The Cuttings area. When leaving the area please use same route as for entry.PLEASE BE AWARE, THE DORSET COAST HAS HAD ONE OF THE WORST WINTERS ON RECORD FOR LANDSLIPS. AREAS OF PORTLAND ARE ALSO SUBJECT TO LANDSLIPS.
