BMC Competitions Newsletter: Now Available

COMPETITION CLIMBING AND THE OLYMPICSNext Sunday the BMC's National Council will make an announcement on whether or not the BMC will back the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) in its campaign to get competition climbing upgraded to the Olympics.By some estimates there are over 2,000 UK climbers of all ages competing in climbing competitions and it is gaining momentum. Quite rightly, considering the participation in the UK, the British Mountaineering Council are now heavily involved in competitions (BMC Competitions pages). The BMC hosts national and international events, organises the BMC Youth Climbing Series, the BMC Leading Ladder Series, the British Bouldering Championships, British Lead Climbing Championships and has a climbing walls and competition officer, Rob Adie.Climbers in the UK and the BMC Area Committees have been discussing whether to support competition climbing as an Olympic sport for the last few months. Next Sunday is decision day.BMC COMPETITION NEWSLETTERThe BMC Competitions Committee have published the first Competitions Newsletter called Psyched. The first round is at Llangorse Activity Centre near Brecon on the 13th September. This years Cliffhanger in Sheffield hosted the British Bouldering Championships (UKC News Report) and now it is going to be on the telly.
