World University Orienteering Championship 2006

Long DistanceA great result from Slovakia for the Great Britain Women?s team as Helen Bridle finished in 2nd position in the Long Distance Race. What was a tough race through physical terrain was almost dominated by Helen (Chalmers University in Sweden) who ran well to finish in the silver medal position, just 3.36 minutes behind the eventual winner, Dana Brozkova of the Czech Republic. Other top British performances were from Rachael Elder and Mhairi Mackenzie who finished in 20th (63.42) and 22nd (64.09) positions respectively.Women´s Results – 8.4 km, 290m climb, 18 controls. 1. Larisa Stanchenko RUS 58.17 The men had a rather disappointing day but Oli Johnson, from Sheffield University Orienteering Club managed to finish highest out of the Brits in 23rd place with a time of 82.34. Excellent results in both the Men?s and Women?s races as the British Team ended up with two top 10s!
