2011 Lead world champions Eiter and Puigblanque were kicked out in quarter finals by German Tauporn and American Digiulian. Among women, the other semifinalists were Austria's Ernst, Russia's Chereshneva and Slovenia's Markovic. In men's, French Romain, vice world champion Jakob Schubert and Adam Ondra made it to the semis.
While Ernst easily got rid of Digiulian, Chereshneva had to work hard to win Markovic. In the final climb, the 21-year old Russian climber flied to the top and defeated Austrian. Sasha Digiulian got bronze.
In men's semis, nothing to do for Romain against Teutonic Tauporn. Austrian Schubert did his best against Ondra, but the Czech wanted gold (at least this one!) at all costs. And eventually grabbed it, Tauporn second and Schubert third.
The national team overall ranking of the 2011 IFSC Climbing World Championship reads Russian Federation first with 191 points, the US second (167 points) and Slovenia third (164 points). Russians won 3 golds with Dmitry Sharafutdinov (boulder men), Maria Krasavina (speed women) and with the Team Speed trio Sinitsyn, Alekseeva, Vaitsekhovsky.
The last combined gold medals (Lead + Boulder + Speed) has been handed today to Adam Ondra and Sasha Digiulian.
