Dmitry Sharafutnidov (RUS) grabs the Boulder World Title 2011

Dmitry Sharafutnidov (Russia) was crowned new Boulder World Champion, at the 2011 IFSC Climbing World Championship, currently underway in Arco (Italy).

Adam Ondra, Dmitry Sharafutdinov und Rustam Gelmanov Adam Ondra of Czech Republic placed second, with Russia's Rustam Gelmanov coming in third. Exactly as it happened in 2007, Sharafutnidov has won the gold medal and declared his intention to wear it again quite soon in the semi-finals. The Russian flashed three boulders out of four, with a second-try send of men's 4.Nobody could do better than him, with Ondra, Gelmanov and Fischhuber making it to the final too, after closing 3 problems. The remaining two finalists were Cedric Lachat of Switzerland and Thomas Tauporn of Germany.

In men's final, 25-year old Sharafutnidov left no place for doubt and simply mouth-opened the Italian arena, when flashed the last boulder and seized gold. "Winning the world title again is simply unbelievable", said the Russian at the end of the competition, "and in front of such a great audience it was absolutely fantastic."

The 2011 IFSC Climbing World Championship will continue tomorrow and on Tuesday with the 1st Paraclimbing World Championship and climbers from 10 countries, competing in Speed and Lead disciplines. On Wednesday 20th July, the Female Lead Qualification round will be on at 3pm.
