World Orienteering Championships – Qualifications Over

In Kiev all of the qualification races for the World Orienteering Championships 2007 are over with some great performances from the best runners and navigators in the world.The top 15 qualifiers of the 3 different disciplines (Sprint, Middle and Long distance) are then through to the A Final which all take place later this week. The results of the qualifiers reveals who has a chance of becoming World Champions once again with 24 medals up for grabs. Former champions and top favourites Holger Hott Johansson, Simone Niggli, Jani Lakanen all qualified comfortably in their chosen disciplines and the 21 year old prodigy from Australia, Hanny Allston, qualified in 3rd in the Sprint which she dominated last year in Denmark. Jon Duncan runs strongly past the spectator area to 5th place in the Sprint Qualification Liba Sheeran Team GB has performed admirably with 13 runners qualifying for the ´A final´ out the 18 possible places avaliable. Top performances came from Jenny Johnson, Jamie Stevenson, Jon Duncan and Graham Gristwood all qualifying in the top 6 (podium positions) in their specified heats. planetFear´s Jenny Johnson qualifies comfortably in 6th position for the Middle Final Liba Sheeran The Middle Distance Qualifiers this morning brought no suprises for the Scandinavian nations with Sweden and Finland getting all 6 runners through to the final. Norway, Czech Republic, Latvia and Estonia got 5 through, with Latvia´s 6th runner in 16th position in her heat.
