The Great Kinder Beer Barrel Challenge

Saturday saw the 7th running of the Great Kinder Beer Barrel Challenge race which started in 1999 when the Nag´s Head in Edale ran out of beer. Check out this article for the history of the event. Teams of 8 carry a full beer barrel from the Snake Pass Inn, Ladybower over Kinder to the Nag´s Head, Edale.

Teams are left to create their own carrying contraptions.

11 teams competed this year with Gladioli the reigning champions having won for the past 5 years. A new team from Dark Peak Fell Runners took the event by storm winning in a new record time of 46 minutes with Gladioli second in just over 50 minutes. The winners picked up the 72 beer vouchers although there were lots of calls that they didn´t look old enough to drink them! Much to the distress of other competitors the entire Dark Peak team of: Andrew Middleditch, Rob Baker, James Hargreaves, Ben Carter, Neil Northrop, Rob Little, Oli Johnson and captain Pete Hodges, is under the age of 30.

Captain Pete Hodges collects the trophy for the victorious Dark Peak team.
