A seven-member team of Finnish alpinists set off for a twenty-four day assault on virgin peaks of the Kunlun massif, which enters China from Tibet´s high plateau to form the Qin Ling range and the Daba Shan. The potential for new alpine climbs on technically demanding peaks in this region is great and the Finnish team climbed four first ascents. Luke Bauer reports at In late May this year, Dutch climbers Martin Fickweiler and Niels van Veen stood atop the summit of a rock peak on the northwest side of Stewart Valley, Baffin Island.Lindsay Griffin reports at Jonny Copp and Micah Dash, both of Colorado, made the first ascent of an unclimbed 1100-meter wall called Shaffat Fortress in India´s Zanskar range from August 8-11. Their climb, Colorado Route (VI 5.11 M6 A1, 21 pitches, 1100m) is representative of the enormous attention given to the spires of northern India and Pakistan from strong alpine-style teams in recent years.
