Beth Rodden, the talented young American climber who was involved in a Middle East kidnapping not so long ago, is back in the news. She has headpointed (on pre-placed gear) the famous Sphinx Crack in Colorado. The route, 5.13c, has had a world wide fierce reputation since it was established in the 70´s, and was impressively onsighted a few years ago by Yuji Hirayama. Also, on a slightly different note, she recently rushed her boyfriend, fellow kidnap victim Tommy Caldwell, to hospital after he chopped off the end of one of his fingers with a saw! She had the presence of mind to ice the severed digit and take it to the hospital to be re-attached. Here´s to a speedy recovery! Rock & Ice.
