Sender Films have just released their 'First Ascent' Box Set. This 6 episode mega-DVD has well over 3 hours of climbing footage including the now legendary Alex Honnold 'Alone on the Wall' and other top stuff, you know, like BASE jumping down the Eiger and other tame action…Anyway, here we have some previously unreleased footage from Sender Films. This clip is of Nick Martino and is included on the DVD Box Set in the extras, but was never shown when the original episodes came out.You get to see it first on UKC!We asked the guys at Sender Films to introduce the clip:”While filming for the First Ascent Series over the last couple years we were gathering footage in our nearby crack climbing Mecca of the Utah desert. Climbers head out there in the autumn to work new projects, and they often get drawn in to the desert rat lifestyle and don't return back to civilization till the spring when the desert starts to overheat.Last year, Nick Martino, a young monkey who cut his teeth on Yosemite granite, got bit by the desert bug as he obsessed over his visionary project 'Kansas City Special' – so named because Nick is from the flat-lands of Kansas. Most desert routes require full-on crack techniques and not much else. But, climbing KC special involves creative use of the unique architecture of the desert wall – laybacking a wind-carved scoop, powering up an off-set seam, and lunging to a knife-edge arete – along with placing micro-gear in the think crack. It's a wild, dynamic route, which will likely be the hardest climb in the desert once it goes. This footage of Martino became part of the “Desert Rats” bonus episode on the First Ascent Box Set. It never made it into the series as our other 6 features all came together. But it's some of our favorite climbing footage and makes for the best bonus episode we've done.”You watch the First Ascent trailer and order the whole First Ascent Box Set on DVD or HD download at www.senderfilms.com Diesen Artikel inkl.
