The Foreign Office currently advises exceptional caution when travelling or trekking in Nepal following Maoist attacks on Lukla airport and town February 3/4. All flights have been cancelled and British nationals are advised not to travel to the Solukhumbu region until this situation has been resolved. Since the end of the ceasefire between the Government and Maoist rebels (26 November 2001), the Royal Nepal Army has been engaging rebel groups across rural Nepal. Strict curfews, army and police checkpoints are in force. Further updates from The Foreign Office or 020 7008 0232. Thanks to the BMC
