Paul Nunn Memorial Lecture – Sheffield, Wednesday

by Ian Smith The ever popular Paul Nunn Memorial Lecture returns this year to the usual venue at Sheffield Hallam University for its 12th year. All proceeds go to charity. This years lecture features Outdoor photographers, John Cleare and Andy Heading. John Cleare is one of the finest British mountain photographers ever to hold a camera with both a national and international reputation of the highest calibre. Since providing the photos for the seminal and iconic book Rock Climbers in Action in Snowdonia, John has produced or been involved in 26 books. He has provided photos for numerous magazines, newspapers and has undertaken myriad commercial assignments and been a cameraman on many film and TV projects. John rarely lectures, so this is a fantastic opportunity to see one of ´the greats´, and for the Paul Nunn Lecture he is preparing a special presentation to showcase his long career producing wonderful photographs of adventuring in many of the world´s wild and remote places. In 2001, Andy Heading, a young British cyclist achieved an almost impossible journey. Andy travelled the 1,100 miles from Anchorage to Nome to jointly win the infamous Iditasport Impossible race. Unsupported for 27 days across snow and ice, Andy´s exciting, often funny, sometimes touching story of human endurance in extreme circumstances, is illustrated with photographs from the race. An astonishing story of physical and mental endurance, Andy overcame bitter cold, extreme sleep deprivation, wolves and hallucinations on his way to victory.
