Steve McClure has made the second ascent of John Welford´s route, The Bastard, at Rubicon. Weighing in at F8c, many have long thought it F8c+, but Steve confirmed the grade at F8c. He first got on it two years ago and felt it was “desperate (F8c+)”. Then he had a “play” on it last week, and red-pointed it first time on Tuesday. He says his brain engaged, he found a cunning sequence (available at a small price!) and it clicked. Steve is off to Ceuse in France for three weeks in July.
