We have just heard that the 2007 Force Ten ?Phoenix? Long O has been cancelled.The Phoenix is an annual 2 day orienteering event held in the Cheviots. Unlike the normal 2 day mountain marathon format, in the Phoenix competitors return to camp at the event centre at the end of each day. Organised by the Newcastle and Tynside Orienteers (NATO) the first event took place in 1994 and has been held every year since, with the except of 2001 (Foot and Mouth year) and it now 2007.The NATO website simply says that ?We regret very much to announce that we are unable to run a Phoenix Long O this year due mainly to the unexpected non availability of key people?
