The world famous Banff Mountain Book Festival has been taking place this past week with two UK books taking awards. Accomplished and acclaimed alpinist Stephen Venables won the Best Mountain Literature Book for his Higher Than the Eagle Soars, which tells of his successful climb up Everest´s Kangshung Face without supplementary oxygen in 1988. Stephen has previously won Banff awards for previous books Himalaya Alpine Style and Everest ? Summit of Achievement. The second UK award went to Mike Robertson and the Rockfax team for their Deep Water guidebook that showcases Deep Water Soloing in the UK and selected locations worldwide. The guide won the Mountain Exposition award, winning ahead of a strong field that included the BMC´s Stanage guidebook (the BMC won this award last year for their Burbage, Millstone & Beyond guidebook). The Grand Prize went to Forever on the Mountain, by James M Tabor, an investigation of the 1967 disaster on Mount McKinley, which took the lives of seven men. Source: BMC
