Whittaker Climbs Kaluza Klein E7

Young Pete Whittaker (16) has climbed Kaluza Klein, E7 6c at Robin Hood Stride spending just 20mins trying it before leading it successfully. Kaluza Klein is a grit classic that has ground fall potential if the top tricky sequence goes wrong so a quick ascent is highly impressive. Pete has had a very productive 2007 having climbed his first E7 while studying for his GCSE´s in May (see Whittaker Climbs Braille Trail, E7 6c news here). Since then he has climbed the Grit classics – Crack and Slab E7 7a at Curbar, Obsession Fatale E7/8 at the Roaches & Sad Amongst Friends E6 7a at the Cowper Stone – and added his own route to Burbage South with Back Down Under E5/6. Not bad for someone still at school. Most significantly he repeated Paul Higginson?s hard test piece, Pool of Bethesda V12/Font 8a+, joining a rather exclusive club which includes Malcolm Smith and Rich Simpson. Danny climbed the line, then repeated it twice for the camera afterwards, taking a fairly spectacular fall from the top when a small crimp (not essential) snapped off. Danny also made a fairly effortless ascent of Mr Fantastic V12/Font 8a+ in the same session. He had tried both problems previously.
